Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is used to save a severely damaged, decayed or infected tooth. Tooth cracks, tooth fractures, severe caries, facial trauma, and repeated procedures on the same tooth are among the reasons that cause the tooth in question to need root canal treatment. Root canal treatment takes its name from the spaces inside the tooth root, called canals.
With root canal treatment, which is performed by removing the dental nerve and pulp, i.e. the tooth pulp, and cleaning the inside of the tooth, the surrounding tissue around the tooth is prevented from getting infected and causing more serious problems by causing tooth abscess. It is important to perform root canal treatment as early as possible to save the problematic tooth and perform the repair before experiencing tooth loss.
The first step in root canal treatment, which can be performed by a specialist dentist or an endodontist, is an x-ray. Through x-ray, the condition of the channels inside the tooth root and whether there is any infection in the surrounding tissues are displayed. Accordingly, the root canal treatment to be applied to the tooth is planned by the specialist physician.
In the second stage, anesthesia comes into play. Root canal treatment is a treatment method performed under local anesthesia. The area next to the tooth is numbed through anesthesia.
In the third step, a cavity (hole) is opened into the tooth. By entering through the space in question, the problematic pulp area, decayed nerve tissue and infected particles are removed. The inside of the tooth is completely cleaned and disinfected.
In the fourth stage, the filling process is carried out. In order to remove the pulp and dental nerve, the space opened in the tooth root is filled using a special rubber compound. It is aimed to prevent possible infections thanks to the space filled with this substance called gutta percha, which is compatible with the human body and does not cause any allergic reactions. At the end of this stage, root canal treatment is completed.
